Globalvia Jons is contracted to provide Winter Maintenance operations on MMaRC Network A from October to May. A total of 18 gritting trucks across 12 routes are used to treat Network A and up to 25 snow ploughs are available for the management of extreme weather conditions.

Globalvia Jons apply pre-wet treatments and use Vaisala Manager to monitor & record road conditions, communicate decisions & treatment details and access live monitoring of winter fleet information. Typical salt usage is between 2,500 and 3,000 tons of salt each year, and up to 75 precautionary treatment runs carried out over the season.

The 2017-2018 winter season which brought the arrival of the ‘Beast from the East’ saw the application of nearly 8,000 tonnes of salt and 110 precautionary treatment runs, as well as reactionary treatments to numerous snow events including a 1 in 35 year event in March 2018.
